SCHOOLS TO CLOSE ON THIS DAY. HERE’S OFFICIAL OPENING DATE
School LS to be closed. Term one of 2022 began on April 25th, 2022, and ended on July 1st, 2022, after a duration of 10 weeks. The changes in term dates were meant to restore order to the school calendar after the covid 19 pandemic disrupted it.
After a compulsory break that saw all schools close to giving room for polling and tallying 2022 August 9th General Elections in the country, all schools resumed back on 18th August to complete the better part of term 2, 2022
This term has ever remained shorter than expected as a result of being surrounded by multiple activities that are officiated by the government.
According to the Ministry of Education’s earlier school Calendar, term two was programmed to take a total of 10 weeks, something that never happened at all. This resulted in a number of education stakeholders suggesting to have the term extended by the Ps.
Professor Magoha maintained that the term dates will never be altered. To the above effect, now all schools are expected to break in late next week.
According to the MoE calendar on term dates, all Kenyan schools shall close on Friday, 16th September 2022. This break will take 10 Days as Learners will resume back to start the 3rd term on 26th September 2022.
Note that in this term, learners will not have a haft term break bearing in mind that this is the period when KCPE, KCSE, and KPSEA Examinations will be done.
On August 2022, the Education Cabinet Secretary, prof George Magoha ruled out an extension of the school Calendar amidst pressure from the education sector, and head teachers.
CS Magoha was speaking in Njiru after opening Competency Based Curriculum. He stated that the ministry is keen to ensure the school Calendar normalizes in January 2023. He said that despite the tumultuous political climate, there are currently no intentions to change the calendar.
The Ministry of Education has also outlined the main role of school principals as schools head towards the closing date. The principal is the lead educator and accounting officer and is responsible for the operational management of the institution.
