MIKE SONKO HAS BOWED OUT OF MOMBASA GOVERNOR RACE
Wiper Democratic Party has reportedly presented the name of Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as its Mombasa gubernatorial candidate.
According to reports, Sonko has stepped down to have Mbogo, who was his running mate, step forward and take the main and driver seat as they target to win the seat on August 9.
Standard Media Group journalist Ali Manzu tweeted saying IEBC’s lawyer Edwin Mukele had confirmed the news.
Ali Manzu has also revealed that Sonko is now going to play the role of deputizing Ali Mbogo in their new arrangements
“Wiper presents Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo to IEBC as its Mombasa governor candidate replacing Mike Sonko who will be the running mate, IEBC lawyer Edwin Mukele says,” Ali Manzu tweeted.
However, a 3-bench-judge had earlier ruled and barred Wiper Party from replacing Sonko with any other names.
More so, the court also stopped IEBC from gazetting names of Mombasa gubernatorial candidates until Sonko’s case is heard and determined. IEBC was also stopped from printing ballot papers.
